I have a no spark condition on an 80 hp mercury serial # 3059186. This motor has a belt-driven distributor. We'd prefer to diagnose it surgically vs. throwing parts at it and guessing. Do any of you have a step-by-step instruction process on what to test first and how to test it? Coil, Cap, Rotor, Wires, Trigger?

Also - Does this motor have points and condensor under the flywheel? Anybody know?

Thanks in advance!

Jason, That motor should have a battery-powered CDI ignition. No points or condenser. The rotor is non-removeable. The parts are real expensive. A troubleshooting procedure is avail at the CDIElectronics web site.
