2006 johnson 115 2 stroke . It's been going into reverse funny for a while . It's hard to shift and sometimes I have to push it into neutral and back into reverse a couple times to get it to engage ? Now I have none. Havent looked at anything yet to find the problem gonna get into it tonight. Any help would be much appreciated.

IF everything is working properly then look at the clutch dog. A worn clutch dog can cause such issues easily. And of course to see that clutch dog means going into the lower foot section to see... JMHO!

Well I took the controls apart and nothing looked loose or broke everything under the cowling looked like it was actuating normally. I drained my lower unit oil and the top drain screw had a little bit of metal shavings on it the lower had none. After straining the oil I was surprised that there wasn't as much metal shavings as I would have expected . Really it didn't seem to be that much. ? I'm sure it's a lower unit issue but I really expected more shavings ? My only other thing is the motor and controls came off a center console and is now on a pontoon. The cables were longer than where I put my old ones so it has a big loop in it and has always been tough. I took it all apart and unrolled the loop and it still shifted quite hard ? My forward seems fine?

Remove the shift cable from the motor and try shifting it on the motor when running.

Took them off shifted it a couple times it seemed to go in gear. I've been meaning to rebuild my side console so I tore it all apart and unrolled the shift cables so they were a little more relaxed . It was still a little hard to shift but it did go into forward and reverse twice so I guess I'll just keep my eye on it.
