Had lower unit of 1995 mercury 40 force rebuilt,I'm trying to install lower unit,<br />I'm having trouble lining up shifter shaft <br />into correct gear,I can't get it to go into reverse. Can you help?
Just helped my neighbor do one last night! Put lever in neutral and disconnect cables from motor. Turn spindle on lower unit to get prop. into neutral. Alignment is still tricky but you should be able to get them together. Top of lower unit shaft may not seat correctly into engine. Have someone lightly turn engine by hand to get the last inch in. Blot up lightly. Reconnect gear cable and check F/N/R. Cable may need to be adjusted. Lock up bolts.<br /><br />Good Luck<br /><br />Liam
