The 9.9 Nissan 4 stroke has a front shift selector rather than a side selector as with older small outboard engines. The shift lever is attached to a horizontal rod with a slight bend which when moved horizontally shifts the enigne thru its gears. if too much pressure is exerted, the rod becomes bent so that there is not length to shift into reverse. So, I take out the rod, reshape it and reinstall until the next time. This is not hard to do, but it is bothersome. Can anyone give me a more permanent solution? Thanks. Muley
