No reverse after impeller replacement

Just got boat 2015 115 ob. Changed impeller w shifter in reverse.After re install of lower, I have no reverse. I am waiting on delivery of manual. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Remove gearcase, set throttle to neutral. Turn shiftshaft CCW until you find neutral. Reinstall gearcase.

Yup...prop will spin freely both cw & ccw.

Ok, I'm missing something. If shifter spline is in neutral and I have to adjust prop to slide in I'm not in neutral anymore?

it seems it might be easier for me to put everything in reverse. Any idea which direction the spine needs to be? Thank you

Installation of gearcase in neutral will assure that upper and lower shift shafts are aligned properly. Turn the flywheel to mate the driveshaft and crankshaft, as propshaft should spin freely in neutral.

When I turn spline to neutral it moves back into gear(?)

I would expect the gearcase to stay in neutral. Does it "click" into Neutral?
