No resistance from stator

trying to find the cause of a no spark condition. On my 75 85hp. Going down the list of tests, it has you check the stator resistance from the brown and brown/yellow wires.

I disconnected them for the pack and I get a 0 reading, meter acts like nothing is connected. Am I doing something wrong? or do I have a bad stator?

The tests I am using are here on page 24

Thanks!

Re: No resistance from stator

just asking cause I'm not sure how familiar you are with your meter - is it set for the correct range? ohm meters I've used, 0 (zero) means very little resistance....no reading (open circuit, or infinity resistance) reads "0.L" -

Re: No resistance from stator

With the meter set to High Ohms, and the ohm meter connected between the Brown and the Brown/Yellow wires, the reading should be 630 ohms +/- 75 ohms.

With the meter set as above, if you're sure you're obtaining a Zero reading, the stator winding is open..... Faulty Stator.

Re: No resistance from stator

I guess that was a typo on my part... it is reading 0.L . Ok, so it looks as if the stator is bad. Is there a way to test the yellow leads or is there any point at this time?

Thanks for all the help

Re: No resistance from stator

If the brown leads test bad, the stator is junk. The yellow alternator leads are on the same stator, so there's no point. The brown ones fire the ignition, the yellow charge the battery.

Re: No resistance from stator

I am going to go get a good used stator from a friend. I will get it installed and see what happens.

Thanks!
