No Power

Hi there i have a 1978 70 hp johnson it runs great but when you put it in gear all you get is a big burst of speed and then theres nothing it bougs right down to nothing and its driving me nuts please help

Sounds like it is running out of fuel. Reasons could be manny. some to look for are pluged high speed jet, fuel pump not working right or sucking air, air vent on tank not open or pluged. Let us know if any of this helps. Or give us more information.
