I have an 80s model Yamaha. I have had for 2 years.Last fall I parked it then got it out a month or so later. Started hard then smoked a little then idled fine. But when I went to put the hammer down no power at all. It started to go a little faster but never got close to 5000rpm.
checked the plugs seemed fine has plenty of spark with a spark tester. butterflies open all the way . Ran a can of seafoam through tank still nothing it almost feels like I am trying to pull a tank when wide open. When I fool with the choke switch it picks up a little but not much. When i raise the The idle leaver it reves up plenty.

Take a timing light with you and make sure the stator is firing on the high side. Check to see that trigger is advancing properly.

I had a similar problem with my Yamaha 60hp. Start fine and idle fine but no power. Turned out to be the high speed jet in the Carbs. You may need to rebuild the carbs if nothing else works. But get a service manual first or find a friend to do it.
USMC
