I have a 50hp Mercury 2 stroke . Went out on it last night and it was running great. Went to wash the boat today and took the cowl off while hosing down the boat and got the engine pretty wet. Well then I went to tilt it up and start it on the muffs and i hear click click and then nothing. I checked the basic wires and battery and I am getting absolutely no power to the tilt or the motor. Makes no noise at all now. Where do I start? I didnt have my cowl on and it was raining. Would something of happened from something getting wet? Please Help!!

You took the cowl off while hosing down the boat and got the engine pretty wet.

I didn't have my cowl on and it was raining.

Please don't get water on the inside the engine with the cowling off.

I think a fuse is burned out, it's a big fuse I think around 30 amp, it might be close to the battery, good luck.

The model year of that motor would help. The older motors didn't have any fuses. Newer ones do...

BTW- it is not a problem to hose off an outboard (or inboard), as long as water does not get into the carb throats or throttle bodies. Water sprayed on the motor will not harm ign components.

OK, it likely has a fuse. Trace the red wire from the starter solenoid toward the boat wiring harness. The fuse is usually inline at that point.

Just curious if its not the fuse(which im checking later tonight) could it be a bad solenoid? No tilt, motor, or electronics power.

If you here a "click" when you hit the trim, that is your solenoid. That means it is working. You can also test it by taking a screw driver and touching the two big terminals together. If the trim works, then your solenoid or your trim switch is bad.

check all fuses first

Replaced all fuses last night and still Nothing. I also checked all wires and cleaned up any corrosion. Checked the battery also. I am getting no click or anything when I hit the trim. What should I check next? Solenoid and trim switch?

OK, not the fuses. To isolate the issue, jumper across the starter solenoid secondary winding (large terminals), with a jumper cable. The starter should crank. If not, then no current is getting from the battery to the starter solenoid, due to defective +12VDC wiring, the battery is bad, or the ground wiring is bad.
