Re: no power to dash

Are you referring to power to the ignition switch and instruments, or power to other accessories?

You need to start at the ignition switch and see if you have power to the battery terminal on the ignition switch. If not, follow back to the engine with a meter and find out where the power stops.

i have gone from the battery to the starter, which was good (red wire), from the starter yellow/red, nothing, to the solenoid nothing. i then went to the ignition. i think they wire was purple, tested all three wires connected to the ignition switch nothing., at one point i did have a clicking noise coming from the solenoid but that stopped when a friend tried to jump the solenoid.

I had the same problem only last week and had to clean all the fuse connections and everything worked again.

+1 My IGN. fuse has a contact problem (or I guess I should say corrosion problem). Some times I have to clean it (or sometimes can just get away with twisting it). BTW I have cleaned the heck out of it and the connections, just a recurring problem.

Your ignition draws its power from a fuse or breaker somewhere in there.
The starter is all secondary to your key switch because your key switch controls it.
When you turn the key on, your gauges should light up and all that.
You have a loose wire, blown fuse or bad connection somewhere.
Get out your boats book or there should be some kind of schematic plastered to the boat somewhere that would be helpful.
its troubleshooting 101 from here on in.
