Looking for a few suggestions please. I recently had my 90 h.p. evinrude rebuilt. The mechanic recommended boring all 4 cylinders, replacing all 4 pistons, rod bearings and etc. He also offered a 1 year warranty but only if I also replaced the original VRO oil/fuel pump. So I got the motor back and began running it in my yard to get some idle time on it and the no oil buzzer and light came on. After returning it to him he said it was probably air in the lines and he purged it out and everything should be okay. I ran it for 2 hours that day with no problems. 2 days later I crunk it and the same no oil light comes on. I turned it off and recrunk several times but it kept coming on. I returned it to him and he says he ran it for 30 minutes and no lights have came on but he believes the VRO pump may be the cause of it. He thinks the new VRO pump could be faulty. How likely is this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am out $2600 and still cant use my boat.
Thanks, stratosevinrude

Get a factory service manual from www.kencook.com

Heres what the manual advises...
mix up a can of fuel and oil 50/1
, leave the oil line connected, run it and monitor the oil consumption from the oil tank, if it uses oil then the fault is someplace in the oil warning elecs.
The manual explains it better.

As advised the OEM manual has several tests for the OMS Pump. You could have a small leak in the oil line, allowing the pump to lose prime. You probably want to run 50::1 premix until you find the trouble.

Thanks for the replies. I am running a 50:1 mixture in the tank. I think I will continue to do this until the problem has been gone for awhile. It's just funny that the no oil alarm had never came on until this work was done. I checked the low oil alarm once by letting the level get low. It worked fine. I will try to get a manual that is a good idea. Does the VRO pump get a reading from the tachometer wiring?
Thanks, stratosevinrude

The four wire OMS Pump has power, ground, No oil alarm signal line and tacho signal (purple, black, tan/trace, grey, respectively). You would ground the tan/trace wire, ignition on, engine not running to set off the no oil alarm. Sorry, I do not remember the trace color, off hand.
