People can and will abuse any system/privilege/right/power/position/influence/etc... they have. This is the result of abusing our legal system.

It really all starts with the values we teach our kids and stems from there.

Re: No more Tag for kids

I took my mom to one of my boys' Little League games a few years ago. She wanted to know why there were no kids in wheelchairs playing . . . Before anybody flames me, the idea that we have to manage everything to the exception is as much a part of the problem as the lawyers are. Well maybe the lawyers are the ones who taught us to manage to the exception?

Hmmmmmmmm . . . Chumps!

I don't have a problem with the school's descision. I have a problem with the parents who would file suit and the court that upholds it. Thats the problem.........not that a school banned tag.

We need to ban those parents from driving to work. Accidents happen, people get killed or hurt and raise our rates. So driving cars is too dangerous an activity for those parents and school officials.

Things are out of control . . . .

Kids should not be allowed to play games that are anything less than all inclusive. How would you like it if some kid in the neighborhood could run faster, jump higher or lift more than your child. How would you explain to your child why the other kid is "better" at something then they are. Games which have a winner produce many more losers who in turn develop damaged self esteem.

Things need to be reduced to the lowest common denominator to protect our childrens self image and help them reach a healthy consensus among themselves. Remember, there's no "i" in "team".

Hope you have your rain gear and flak jacket handy. I'd take a shot at this but I just don't have the time right now.

Raising a nation full of female reproductive organs we are.

I'd use the slang word for it but I wouldn't want iboats to get sued.

You learn far more by losing than you do by winning. Lets not deprive them of the opportunity.

But the good news is we can prescribe more prozac because these kids seem hyperactive. And we can't understand why. :}

School is about learning, losing is a learning experience, getting hurt is a learning experience, winning is a learning experience. Exercise is a good thing, Physical contact is a good thing, interaction is a good thing. Organizing a game by themselves is a learning experience.

Thank god for lawyers ruining everyones lives.

Pointer,

I could not have said it any better.

As someone said earlier, it comes down to money. Simply put, school systems cannot afford expensive representation, even if they win their case. Win or lose, they must pay to be represented. Therefore, they choose to eliminate the problem before it costs them a great deal of money. You can blame it on lawyers if you would like, and they do deserve some of the blame. However, they cannot do anything without the signatures of parents. Some parents are willing to do whatever to make a quick buck.

Unfortunately, the kids are the ones losing the most as Pointer has stated.

Goes back to the PC thing. Don't want feelings hurt ya know. What is going to happen when these kids have to face the real world? That is what scares me. They won't know how to handle failure, why someone else got the job, got promoted...etc

Tagging a building with spraypaint is a kid's activity!

Dam shame for the kids. I just sit here and shake my head.

I wonder if musical chairs is considered too rough with kids competing for a seat!

Re: No more Tag for kids

Hey, I guess the kids can all join soccer. Everyone gets a trophy for going 0-10. They are all winners. Plus, all the fruit they can eat.

"Hey, we got beat. No problem, here is your trophy, now go have some fruit and feel good about your performance. No need for practice, see you at the game Saturday."

I heard something similar when my youngest son was 6 and beginning to play soccer. Needless to say, that was the last year he played. A couple of years later, he joined JH and then the HS cross country teams. In my opinion, the best HS sport of them all. It's hard to argue your XC performance with a stop watch. Absolutely nothing subjective about it, and nobody has to tell them how well they did or did not perform, nor can anybody tell them they did well when they did not.

I guess I could have sued the host school for not making the fastest kid slow down and wait for mine.

Not trying to hijack KIZ. Just something I had to say.
