Well, it's early, but here in the Midwest, the weather predictors are starting to talk about a major snow storm coming this weekend. I imagine things will change before then, but WGN in Chicago was talking about people in our neck of the woods getting as much as 18"-24"!

I'm ready to cry uncle. Please make winter go away. Please!

I died a little inside today when I looked at the 10 day forecast and saw it was going to be 40 degrees below normal next week. Not going to make it much longer!

Well if it makes you feel any better, it will hit me before it hits you!

unfortunately as we all know, when the temps start to rise some, the snow is going to get us. maybe not this one but there will be more.

If I could get my camper out of the yard I might even consider moving to FL in it. LOL tired of the cold.

Umm, you do know your part of Ill. is still in a moderate drought condition and you NEED the moisture right? I know, I was surprise when I looked at the map and we are too with all the snow we've had this winter. But then if I drive around and look at the ponds they are all way lower than they should be.

(Don't know if it's accurate but I've been told it takes a foot of snow to equal an inch of rain.)

This may sound funny but winter is drought time, the driest time of the year.

Why, because all the moisture that has fallen is frozen.

Actually NWS has our county partly in the 'abnormally dry' and partly in the 'none' category for drought. There is a band to the south of us that runs into the center of the state that is listed as 'moderate drought.' Your point is well taken, though. The crazy thing is that all the farmers around here are concerned that we won't benefit enough from what snowpack we have. The frost is so deep from crazy cold temps we've had that they're concerned that most of the moisture will run off, rather than soak into the soil. It could also contribute to another weird situation: flooding in a drought area.

I would welcome precipitation in the form of a gentle, warm spring rain. This snow, however, is getting really tiresome...

As long as the ice is off the lake for the opener.
Last year, we had ice here in WI for the opener.
3 weeks later, went to Canada, and had ice on the lake their too.
Really screwed up the fishing.

I had to work about an hour north of where I live today and drove by a small church. The reader board made me smile:
Whoever is praying for snow.... please STOP

Same for us, never seen the frost go this deep here. Lots of water lines frozen that had to be dug up, through the frozen ground. NOT a good time for anyone.

What do your ponds and small lakes look like?

Not sure... everything has been under too much snow to see until the last couple of days, and I've had my nose to the grindstone to much to be out and about.

It sounds like our forecast is down to a foot or less of snow, so I guess I should be a bit less gloomy...
