no low idle or high rpm on 1974 ted williams

hello agian trying to resurect an old ted williams to troll my boat but the dang thing will not low idle or go high rpm,mid range is choppy at best "cuts in and out " will hardly run anyone have any ideas. It has an air cooled techumseh 7.5 hp and the numbers on the tag are 640 04A and 6914844 any help will be apreciated thanks

Hi Glutton, I've never run into one of these engines only in Alberta could you most likly find one......J/k<br />I'm guessing its a 4stk? (tecumseh lawn mower engine)?<br />Nether the less its just a motor,Is it mechanicly sound? (compression?) If yes, your narrowing it down, ignition cutting out or fuel not flowing at all times...1step at a time.<br />Good luck, its neat to see people keeping the old stuff running, its all corroded away out here

the engine has good compression and is 2 stroke I have tried new fuel,cleaned the carb,new fuel line and tank and reed valves .I would love to get the old girl running well again .I have not been able to get any engine manuals, spec sheets or material on this engine at all any help is muchly apprecated thanks

Clarify just a couple things for me if thats okay.<br />In regards to the carb, does it have a built in fuel pump? Will the engine run any differnt if you pump the primer bulb?<br />Second question how long can you keep the engine running and have you examined the sparkplug (compare it to a plug chart)<br />Before we get away from carbs (you cleaned it) so to me tham means you have traced and cleared Idle circuit, midrange circuit (if it has one) main jet checked float condition and set height, and finally checked needle & seat for prober operation?<br />Whew that typed me out.<br />P.S. Its finnaly stopped raining here might even be able to go fishing soon.

Since your engine has a Tecumseh powerhead, I presume this is an Eska we're talking about? If so, you can get manuals here:<br /> Eska resource, click here.<br /><br />Since you don't have a model number there, I can only tell you it should have a Tecumseh 640-09, 640-09 or 640-10 engine on it. Any manual that covers that engine should be good for your powerhead.<br />Say, maybe something like this - Ooops, how did that get there??<br /><br />

Paul I dont know just how that ended up on the post but I shure glad it did .Thank you a bunch , I will go through it very carfuly and see if i cant get the old girl going strong again, It worked great last season fired it up again next season and no good, I use it to fish on my 12' aluminum and as a kicker on the big boat Thanks again guys
