Howdy I own an Evinrude 18hp fastwin from 1973. The low speed on this engine is fine but when I give it gas it seems to have no power and runs kinda rough like the fuel air mixture is off. I have replaced the condencer and coils and points. Rebuilt the carb, cleaned it etc.Looked at the manifold all "leafs" etc are fine. So I took it out with a can of carb cleaner and gave her a shot while driving and it took of so fast I almost fell out. Im guessing its not getting enough fuel because she definatly wants to run. But it has a fixed high speed jet so im not sure what to do. It seems there is just a tube from the bottom of the bowl straight up into the throat of the carb and it isnt clogged. What is my next step to diagnose this problem????

You have to remove the high speed jet and thoroughally clean it out. Use a couple strands of wire from an old extension chord, soak, then blast clean with compressed air. Look to the FAQs for a thread by Tashasdaddy which will help you with this.

....BTW, dont use carb cleaner like that while running. Use a spray bottle with pre mixed fuel.
