No get up and go in Cobra 2.3

I just bought a VIP Vision with a Cobra 2.3 engine. It runs nice and smooth when ideling and making my way out of the "No Wake" zone. But when it is time to shove it forward and plain it out, it wants to stall and backfire. Whats up? Bad gas?

Has it been sitting awhile? Sounds like carb varnished up.<br />Do a search here on Iboats , lots of info on such nail bitting problems.<br />Welcome to Iboats!

Ayuh,...... I'd Start with Changing the Fuel Filters.........See what you've got Floatin' around......

I'd bet on a dirty carb too. You can try and spray carb cleaner into the running carb. I'd get a a new gas filter and change it too. If it still hesitates, remove carb and open the float area and clean inside all the orifices of the carb with the carb cleaner spray. Make sure the air filter is clean too. (Might be a good idea to add carb-injector cleaner into the tank too.)<br /><br />These are simple things for you to try. If it still doesn't work and your mechanical ability is limited, have a mech look at it for a tune up. You might need new spark plugs and new points and condensor(if so equiped).

It's a good Monday (so far)> After a full weekend of advice on the problem from autoparts stores (and a new fuel/water separater and new spark plugs). Friend of mine stopped by to chat, jumped up into the boat, and in 5 minutes found the problem. The small fuel filter that is in the fuel line where it runs into the carberator was twisted. Enough fuel was getting through to idel, but not enough to run on plane. So, $2.12 later, I"m on the lake. Thanks to all of you for your help.
