No forword?

Hey,<br /> Im looking at a 1975 evinrude 18hp with a tiller and ele start. the guy who owns it said he was fishing and got up near the shore and started the motor to get away but he hit a rock. it didn't break the sheer-pin but there is no forword gear. could the shift lever be bent?

That could be a lot of things, but I would not buy that motor unless I knew for sure what the problem was. <br /><br />Any reasonable seller would allow you to have the motor checked by your local wrench before you invest one cent, and that is exactly what you should do. <br /><br />There are too many excellent motors in this age group for you to buy a dog.
