1996 Johnson 88 Spl. When I pull throttle back and shift back to neutral, the motor stays in forward unless I pull back a little extra. Almost back to reverse, then back to the middle of the controller. The controller also doesnt have any feel or a detent when going in and out of gear, forward or reverse. Any help. I'am thinking i can adjust to make neutral line up better, but the lack of a feel in control is not normal to me. It's almost to smooth of a shift.

if you had the control open the ball may have fell out of the detent. the over movement is an improperly adusted shift cable or improperly adjusted shift rod height.

Thanks Tasha.
I'am going to open up the controller and check the "ball". I thought I could maybe adjuct the cable to get the foward-nuetral-reverse right. The engine is so smooth with no clunk going in or out of gear you have to be careful at the ramp or dock.
