no cotter pin?

I went to disassemble my trailer hub and stopped. I couldn't find the cotter pin.
There appeared to be a flat 1/4 inch strip of metal keeping the castle nut from moving. It was in the same place where a cotter pin would be. It appeared to keep the castle nut from moving. I couldn't get the flat 1/4 inch strip of metal out, I was scared to force it out.

Did I miss the cotter pin, or are there other ways to secure the castle nut?

Do you have a tang type spindle washer?

I didn't see 2 teeth I only saw 1.
I do have a zerk fitting on the end of my spinal and a dust cover that says SUP-R-LUBE

Pry the tang back. One may be broken off. Those are used on Sup-r-lubes.

If you are replacing or adjusting bearings pick up a few spare tang washers, they are commonly used on spindle lube hubs.
