Nissan trim stuck down

Hello all!

Ok, I've got a 70 HP Nissan NSD70A2
At the beginning of the season , I think I was starting to get a leak in the hydraulic tilt fluid (or the cap was loose). I bled it, refilled, and it was great.
At that time, I was able to manually lift the motor while pushing the tilt button to go up.

Now... it's another story. The engine is stuck in the down position and it seems locked.
The manual says it has a lever that locks the engine in the down position, but I can't find the darn thing. I looked at the drawings and its just not there (as far as I've seen).

The manual release valve? Forget about it... its so jammed that even after I was able to turn it slightly (with 2 people), it almost stripped completely.

So, my engine has been sitting in the salt water for three weeks.. I know I know... I'm going to pull it out tomorrow... I just haven't had the time.

Any thoughts out there in the iBoats world?

(LOVE this website by the way)

The manual is refering to the lever found on the manual tilt models...If the release is screwed uo you need to get it into a dealer and let them see if they can "unscrewed it up".

Re: Nissan trim stuck down

It's been a while, but for anyone with the same problems:

The cap was loose on the hydraulic fluid tank for the power tilt.
Salt water got in, and it just locked up.

I had 2 options - one was to get a new tilt motor, etc.. or just disable the power tilt and make it manual.

I had a guy basically cut the tilt shaft, and disconnect the motor from the tilt system.
Now, I have to manually lift it out of the water and I came up with a little system using tie-down straps to keep the engine down when putting it in reverse.
However, I saved a ton of money and the boat has been running great all summer.

The lesson: Always make sure that your caps are on there tight, and nip the problem in the butt before it gets too serious!
