I have been told they are the same. I own a Tohatsu 25hp 2-stroke outboard that I bought from www.onlineoutboards.com and on their site they claim Tohatsu makes all Nissan outboard motors and even some of the small portable Mercury outboard engines. A friend of mine owns a 30hp and it looks almost identical just the decals are different really.
