I have a 20+ year old Nissan 8B (2 stroke obviously). When the engine is cold (not running for a couple of hours) it will start immediately with the choke pulled fully out. Then need to push choke in quickly and throttle up to keep it running. After that it will run for 10 to 20 seconds at moderate to high speed (need to keep throttle open), then dies no matter what the throttle position (choke is in, no choke). CANNOT KEEP IT RUNNING with any combination of choke or throttle.
HERE is the wierd part.............
Will only restart after many pulls with the choke in (no choke). After several pulls it will pop once or twice and then run a little bit longer on each succesive pull until it catches sufficiently to allow throttling up. ACTS LIKE IT IS FLOODED! When it does restart there is lots of smoke and rough running for a few seconds (Again it is acting like it was flooded). After the smoke clears it will continue to run at moderate speed but will die at idle until it has warmed up considerably. After warmup runs like a champ and restarts easily and continues to idle without any choke!
Have fresh fuel, carb has recently been cleaned, going nuts trying to figure this out!
