Can anyone tell me about a 99 Nissan 40 P.L.U.S? I'm new here and tried to search for a previous post that answered my question but haven't had any luck so far. I'm looking at buying a boat and motor but wanted to do some research on the motor and find out if there have been major issues. I've never owned an oil injected motor but it sounds good in theory. Any help would be appreciated and the model # is NS40D2. Thanks in advance!

Re: Nissan question

It's a twenty five year old technology engine. Did you have a specific question?

I was really just wanting to know about the reliability of the motor or if they had any issues with the technology. Thanks

Re: Nissan question

The 3-cylinder 40D is as reliable as anything of that vintage and class. The older 40C (being a 2-cylinder) would have had better throttle response, because it has less piston mass, while the 40D will be smoother at low RPMs. All-in-all, a decent design. Parts are still available. No, it's not like a modern TLDI, and not like a 4-stroke for that matter, but it's very good for what it was designed to do.
