Nissan power tilt problems

I have a 50d 2001 Nissan outboard. My problem is that the power tilt works intermittently. I have replaced the motor, and the "up" solenoid. But it still not working properly. Both the switch on the throttle and the motor work because the problem persists using either switch. The only thing I can think of is it is a partially broken wire or the down solenoid. So I was wondering if someone has had the same problem and since I know it was not the "up" solenoid can I just use the old "up" solenoid as the "down" solenoid. I can't see why they would not be interchangeable since they are just a switch.

Assuming your model is NSD50A. That's NOT an NS50D. It's a TLDI. The up and down solenoids are different parts.

Thanks for your reply. It is an m50d2 motor and is a TDLI. I thought since it's just a switch they would be the same. What would the difference be? Just curious. Anyway to test the continuity of the solenoid i have 3 posts. One red, green and black. I'm assuming i test the red and black posts. Thanks for your help. Trying to learn and fix ony own rather then taking it to a dealer.

An M50D2 is NOT a TLDI. An MD50A or MD50B2 is.
Full service info is in the Factory service manual, available from any dealer. Each solenoid requires the other one be present to work. Each has a trigger wire, and by virtue of which solenoid activates, the reversal of the 12v to the pump happens. Some solenoids can be opened and the contacts cleaned.

Thanks again for the help. Will let you know how it goes. The boat is still in the water for another month or so. Will try and fix it when it is out. I know how to bypass the solenoid if I can't raise it to take it out.
