Have a 2003 Nissan 2 stroke 40hp,3 carbs outboard jet,the performance is better in the A.M.,could this be because of density altitude?Run on a dam controlled river with water temp aprox.58 degrees, elevation is around 7-8 hun. ft. here in Arkansas, this happens no matter the season.Any thoughts?

Re: Nissan Performance

Not an alittitude problem. May be engine heat related to electronics or on the mechanical side. Performance could also be related to simple environmental condition differences, but that should be apparent if that were the case.

Is this happening to you only ? ask other boaters to confirm this, have noticed different slight engine behaviours in cold/warm/extra warm weathers, definitely an air temp/moisture issue. Elevation issues starts way high 800 Ft of altitude.

Happy Boating

Right on. I would also try it at night. Cold, damp air expands more than hot, dry air, so theoretically makes more power per stroke. Think intercooler. If it's environmental, you should be able to duplicate the "morning" performance late in the evening as well. OTOH, if the electronics (or mechanicals) work better cold, you should be able to prove that out by running later at night as well, as the motor itself will still be warm.

Thanks for the input, its no big deal, just curious, think it has something to the air being cooler thus denser.
