We are about to buy a new pontoon. The major deciding factor is going to be the motor. One has a Johnson 90hp and the other has a Nisson 90hp. Does anyone have any input on either of these motors?

Re: Nissan or Johnson??

Hi Newbie, I have had experience with both motors. If they have been maintained, they should provide good service. I have found that the Nissan overall seems to have fewer running problems. Or at least, they didn't occur as often. But I'm not 100% for any motor, I have had most manufacturers motors. Maintenance is the key, alot of times, people don't like to pay the big bucks to the dealer, so they delay bringing it to the dealer, when there is a small problem. They continue to run the motor. When it is brought in, It usually ran so bad, if at all, they had to submit. And then they get upset over a bill that is high, because a competent dealer services the motor properly.

We decided on the Nissan. Does anyone know of anything that I should watch for on a 2000 Nissan 90 hp?

i would have chosen the johnson, johnson's are like brigs and stratton motors they kept going and going. plus parts are easier to find and cheaper than the japanese outboards like nissan
