Perhaps you can guide this new owner. I have a 9.9 electric start 4-stroke. Like new (but I think a 2004). Used it twice. Ran fine first time. 2nd time ran in the morning. In the PM, I noticed the gas line disconnected to the motor after it stopped withing a minute running it. It never started again. It would crank, and turn over for about 2 seconds, then nothing - STOP. I thought it may be flooded, but after sitting and trying I could not get it going. Plugs are good, safety lanyard in, filter good. Have stablizer in fuel also. What can be wrong? :'(

Re: Nissan NSF9.9B2 - Won't start

I sprayed a little Quick Start in the air cleaner and the motor started up, then stalled after it burned the ether. There is gas getting to the carb bowl, so I think the problem is the carburator. I got the Tahatsu repair manual for the motor. Question, what is the best procedure for taking the carb off the engine? What is the order of parts I take off? I never attempted this before. The manual does not go into that detail. It does not seem too difficult. Does the entire re-coil (pull start) assembly come off in one piece ? One manifold bolts seem hard to get. What has to come off to get the carb off? Thank you. Any advise would be benificial.

You can take the carb apart in any order that you feel like....Makes no difference. Just turn to page 117 and make sure that when you have it apart you have all the parts out as shown in the diagram. The only thing you have to check as you put it back together is the float level.

Why would you take off the recoil to rebuild/clean a carb?

I thought that has to come off to get to the carb. No? Doesn't the top part have to come off to get to the carb manifold bolts? To be honest, I did not look at the motor that closely yet. Going on memory right now.

Two bolts hold the carb on and you have to disconnect the gas line.
