Hi,
I'm new to this forum and Nissan outboards. I just purchased a 2007 NSF9.8A3 in south Florida for a reasonable price. It started first pull and ran smoothly but would not accelerate beyond idle. Was told carburetor needed cleaning. Didn't really buy that so I brought it home and investigated deeper. There is a section of the carburetor linkage missing that runs from what appears to be the "Rod Snap" to upper carburetor linkage tied together with snap rings ? I have a good photo of what I'm talking and what it should look like, but don't know how to attach.

Thank You,

Re: NISSAN NSF9.8A3 Carburetor Linkage

The throttle rod does not attach via a rod snap; the choke rod does. Do you have a tiller or remote model? On the tiller model, there are some upper linkage parts (that are not sold separately by Tohatsu); those involve the idle advance for choke, etc., but are not attached via rod snaps Can you post a pic of the current setup?

It is a NSF9.8A3 Short shaft tiller. I am attaching photo of current setup and have ordered the broken rod snap.
Thanks

Paul,
You know, the more I look at it, the more it looks like a new carburetor might be in order. Thanks

It's your choke linkage that's decimated. Plus the throttle looks to be out of adjustment. Some monkey has drilled-out the idle mix screw access plug. Those missing parts aren't sold separately, but we may have a used carb in the shop that will have them... if the rest of the carb condition is OK, that is... drop me a PM for more info.

Here is how your linkage should look:
