Hi and Thanks for taking the time to read.

Bought the motor used with a known non-functioning kill switch. Life got in the way preventing me from fixing it and making an upgrade to the motor. Not much of a problem as I would just disconnect the fuel line consume all the fuel to empty the carb until ended up ?getting some water in line(adding a separator now as well) and got stranded in a storm a few days ago.

I got a new kill switch.Old one was probably fine but in rough shape.

I have continuity and see no problem when running both wires from the switch to CDI and to ground. i also tried to kill it by grounding the wire from the CDI and it did not stop.

I got the Tohatsu Factory service manual with the attached wiring diagram(matches the Nissan user manual as well) and discovered two ? cut black wire ends behind the CDI. One short segment from the harness and the other i tracked to near the carburetor where it joins a yellow wire to form a single yellow wire to the carb but i not see this on the diagram.

Did not want to assume it was as simple as reconnecting these two wire as it did not make sense to me at least when viewing the diagram.

?Bad diagnostics, ?Bad CDI

Any suggestions sincerely appreciated.

The kill wire from the CD is brown. When that grounds (to the black at the kill switch), the ignition kills.

It's good practice to run the carb dry unless you know that you will be running the next day. If fuel sits in the carb for a week or two, evaporation will leave varnishing in the carb.

I would trace those two wires to see where the other end goes. The CD needs a ground, but apparently it's got that, or you would not have ignition. There is a ground that needs to go to the CD for grounding the ignition; That may be the broken wire. But check it first.

Yeah following your advice on running the carb dry since I got the motor last year.

I tried to ground the brown wire directly to the block but that would not kill the motor

The other end of the black wire traces to the ABS ?PTC heater on the above diagram.(Not sure I am really having much trouble with cold starts)

After looking more closely not so sure these two black wires were ever connected or if so why the type of connector and location. I am wondering if these are actually two broken ring connectors that should be grounded.

Also I cannot find the black wire to ground from the CDI listed on the wiring diagram

This motor was regularly serviced by a dealer servicing all of the motors for a school who previously owned the motor

Would you suggest putting on two new ring connectors and grounding them

I would put new connectors on them, and connect both to ground. One connector looks like a factory build; the other one looks like it was done in the field.

Worked as suggested. Kill switch functioning so no longer need to disconnect the fuel line 50 yards before my planned destination . Just at the end of the day.

Now just need to invest in a kill switch key as my cheap hack fell in the water at the dock. Fortunately, smart enough not to bring my better set.

Thanks for the expertise
