I went to start up my Nissan outboard tofay and no water is exiting the pee hole, just warm air. (The prop and intake were fully submersed in a large bucket) Pulled off the thermostat and it's bone dry inside no clogging. Is it the impeller? Motor has about 60 hrs on it tops. Always operated in freshwater. If it is in fact the impeller is it a novice job or do I need to have it serviced.. Please help.
thanks

First verify whether you are cooling. The telltale port only shows that the cooling system is pressurized. If nothing is coming out, you may have some debris in the telltale port. In that case, try poking a stiff wire into the telltale while the motor is running (in water, of course); OTOH, if you are getting exhaust air, you are not pumping -- and either have blockage or a bad wp. It's prudent to change the wp kit (not just the impeller) every 3 years or so. If it has not been done in 12 years, you are way overdue. Anyone with average mechanical skills, a service manual, and proper tools can do the job, or you can have your dealer do it. If "air" is coming out, it's actually exhaust, and you likely aren't cooling... in that case, especially at 12 years, a wp kit is definitely in order.
