Nissan NS90A problem

Motor was running great yesterday. I was coming in from the lake behind much larger boats and hit an unusually large wave. The boat came down hard and immediately went to about idle speed. The problem was obviously was caused by the jolt to the boat/motor.

I would have stopped and looked under the cowling but as I have absolutely no mechanical knowledge.... Also, there was a thunderstorm bearing down on my family and I, we continued along at barely above idle. The motor did not sound as though a cylinder(s) were missing.

Later on the trailer, I looked under the cowling and found a loose black wire. There was a small black rubber cover over a round object with two blade terminals. Another black wire was connected to one of the blades and the top blade was empty, the loose wire had apparently disconnected from the empty blade.

The round object with the two blade terminals was slightly larger than thumb size and was mounted on the rear/port side of the motor, next to the middle cylinder. I'll try and post a photo.

Any ideas? Someone suggested that the jolt may have caused the wire to come loose or maybe the problem had nothing to do with this loose wire. If you know what this item was could it have caused the problem?

Thanks for any help.

The overheat sending unit being disconnected shouldn't have caused the engine to drop RPM. I think you have a seperate problem.

Problem solved. I found a loose linkage and snapped it back into place, motor ran like new. Both ends of the linkage were not properly snapped onto the ball fittings. Strange that this would cause such a problem.

That is a little odd, but, not out of the realm of reason. The black connectors friction fit over the balls and with enough wear and a big enough jolt I could see where it could happen. Although in all honesty I would not have ever thought of it to tell you to look for such a freaky thing.
