Just picked up a 2002 Nissan NS9.8 B 2 Stroke outboard on a 10 foot rib inflatable. The combo runs great, but I am having trouble sorting out the idle RPM. The engine runs great, pushing the boat 16 MPH.
It is a 2 cylinder 2 stroke and I am trying to measure the RPM using a Oppama PET 1100R induction tachometer.
I * think* it is reading 2X what it should read. It idles very rough at an indicated 950 RPM, but increasing the idle to 1500RPM *seems* too fast. Does the engine fire both cylinders every time? I have not adjusted the mixture screw yet, maybe I have a dirty carb or a mixture screw that is off.
The engine will not die at idle and runs very strong throughout the RPM range so I am not sure what is going on.
I have not attached the tach at WOT yet to see what it reads, that is my final sanity check.
Thanks,
Chris
