A few weeks ago my outboard suffered a hard collision while in the slip; hard enough to snap both stern brackets and break off part of the anti-ventilation plate.

The outboard still starts fine, but if I shift into forward I have to physically hold the shift lever in F or else it will snap back to neutral within 5 seconds. Reverse works fine. Is there a common/known issue that could cause this? Basically I'm wondering if that collision could cause a problem like this, and if it did is it worth even fixing?

I'm already going to be out $130 to replace those stern brackets. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
