I purchased the carb jet and nozzle kit to upgrade my early 92 8 to a 10. Installed and water tested, poor results. Engine would no longer plane my 11 ft Whaler. Plugs went from a nice even medium brown to mostly white with 1 black spot. Replaced old jets, boat planes again, plugs look good. Has any one had good results with this upgrade? Thanks MartyD:(

Elvin, thanks for the quick reply. About 3 weeks ago we exchanged email about this conversion, and I recieved a 3 piece kit, low and high speed jets, along with a new nozzle for the main. I'm wondering what I could have done wrong.
I was worried that I damaged the engine, but with the old parts she runs fine. Again, thank you for helping us keep these old motors running. MartyD

Those parts would bring the carb up to the 9.8 standard, however, it is possible that your old block lacks the compression to handle the additional fuel without fouling out plugs. Most of the old blocks don't have much time on them and will be able to handle the extra fuel. Your's may be marginal to the point that it runs fine as an 8, but just doesn't have enough omph to get the 9.8 hp. Keep in mind that when your engine was made there was no 9.8 hp available and the block was later redesigned.

Even at 8 hp, I'm amazed at how easily it starts, and the amount of power this tiny little motor puts out . I wish they still made these. Thanks MartyD

They still do make them. They are sold all over the world except the U.S. and CE.
