The exhaust in my outboard comes out of the front of the middle unit. I looked at the unit and corrosion has opened a hole in the middle unit. Engine is a mid 90's. It runs fine otherwise and starts every time. I spoke to an outboard repair guy and he said to remove the powerhead and check the bottom for corrosion. If there is none he has a middle unit that I can buy used and put on my existing motor. My problem is when I removed the 6 bolts connecting the powerhead to the middle unit I can not seperate the powerhead from the middle unit. Is there anything else holding the two together? I downloaded the manual from the Nissan website but it does not give me any help in this situation.

Now you need to encourage the base gasket to separate.

You also need to pick up a service manual for your engine. The manual you downloaded is an owners manual.
