Hi! Over this past summer I bought a 1999 Nissan NS5B off craigslist. It's now sitting in my son's basement awaiting Spring. We didn't do anything special before storing it - just drained the gas & flushed it with fresh water.

It ran fine when we put it is storage, but I'm now thinking of getting it a tuneup to get it shipshape (bad pun) before Spring.

It looks like I can get a water pump kit and carb kit for about $100 - and do the job myself (a good winter project). On the other hand, I might just want to let an expert do this job.

Here's my question... If I get a dealer to replace the pump & clean the carb, what kind of $$$ am I looking at - parts & labor? I'm not looking for a quote - just a guesstimate within $50 or so.

Thanks,
...Jerry

Re: Nissan NS5B Maintenance Advice

In our shop, we do spring prep on these motors for one hour labor. We charge extra for parts -- carb kit if needed, water pump kit if needed, spark plug (usually needed). That rate includes changing LU lube, check/lube all linkages and swivels, etc., and a tank test. So figure $50-$100 labor depending on the rate at your local dealer.

In our area you would be looking at about $100.00 to $125.00 for the labor. Labor costs vary based on the shop labor rate, flat rate versus actual time, fresh water use versus salt water use, luck and above all, honesty.
