Hello Everyone. I'm new to this site so forgive me if I do anything wrong.

I have what I believe to be an early 90's nisssn 40hp outboard. Model NS40C. I was given motor and am trying to get the bugs worked out in it. One thing I haven't been able to find out is this.
How do the plug wires connect to the plugs from the CDI unit. Top wire to top plug and bottom to bottom or do they criss cross and go top wire to bottom and bottom to top.
I'm sure it makes a difference.
When I can get motor fired up it runs pretty good but some times it is hard to get going. Maybe I need a new CDI but want to make sure it's connected properly.
Would appreciate any help anyone may have.

It's a siamese coil, and both wires fire simultaneously, so either wire can go to either plug and it will work well. Dress the wires so they are neat. Typically it is top wire to top plug.

Ok thanks. That's how I have it set up but just looking to verify. Ordered a new CDI unit but was shipped wrong one so now waiting on proper one to come back. Put new fuel pump on and replaced parts in carb with a carb kit today and seems to be running good now in the back yard.
Going to replace CDI anyways when proper one arrives next week. Tired of playing around on the lake with it. At least now I'll know where I stand with it from here on in.
