Nissan NS40C Impeller question

Hey. I'm in the middle of replacing my water pump with the full kit. I'm at the point of taking out the old impeller and putting in the new one. On the hard plastic interior of the impeller, there is a small slot like there's supposed to be a key or a pin in it, but when I took the old impeller out of the housing, there was nothing in it. And there is nothing in the replacement kit that looks like it will go in there. I've seen some forum before where some guy had the same problem I did, and the guy who responded said something about an "impeller key". Is this what I'm missing? What does this key do? I've also noticed a small slot in the metal impeller housing that looks like it might line up with it.

Re: Nissan NS40C Impeller question

Yes, you need it.
The wp kit comes with the stainless-steel impeller drive key, and you need it. Otherwise, the drive shaft will just turn, and not cause the impeller to rotate... hence no water at all. The key engages both the shaft and the impeller, causing them to rotate as a unit. This is detailed in the Factory service manual, which is available from any dealer (including me).
