Hi all:
So here is my problem, hoping that you can help.....
I have a 1992 3.5 hp outboard from my Aunt. Thing was kept clean and put away professionally. Didn't run for perhaps 10 years.
When I first got it, I took the carb apart, cleaned it, put it back together. Cleaned the engine up, put fuel in it, put it on a bucket of water, and the thing worked perfectly.
Brought it up to lake george 2 weeks later, and the thing would run for 20 seconds then shut off. Sounded like it was starving for fuel. Didn't have the tools available on the island to work on it.
When I got home I cleaned out the fuel **** and blew air through it, and fuel ran correctly - it was clogged. The outboard started up after that, but wouldn't idle correctly, though it would go to WOT no problem. Took it to my father who took the throttle assembly apart, cleaned it all again, and put it back together. After that, tI wouldn't idle or go above 50% throttle without stalling out. It also isn't burning oil and is pumping alot of it into the water as well as producing alot of smoke - more then before.
Regapped the spark plug (figured that was the oil problem). Also, took the carb apart again and soaked it overnight in carb cleaner. Replaced the needle (keeping the clip in the same position, replaced bowl gasket and the o-ring on the back, and replaced a few other parts to make sure that no air was getting into the carb before where the fuel line went into the carb and very meticulously cleaned it and blew it out with air. Put it back together and have the same problem.
Any ideas???
I would take the jets out, but can't figure out how to without destroying them ......
