Nissan Frontier 2WD Auto towing 18 ft bowrider with

Good truck with auto tranny cooler installed.(2.8 liter 4 cyl).<br />Frame mounted Reese hitch towing an 18 ft bowrider w/140 OB. I don't use OD on the tranny until cruising above 55mph. It's a single axle aluminum trailer without brakes.<br />Does anyone feel this a bad idea for any reason? I live in Florida and the hills are few and small at best.

Depends if the vehicle is rated to tow that much weight. Your main concern should be braking ability. If you feel comfortable with it and drive prudently you should be okay. I imagine it is tough on that 4 cylinder.<br /><br />Bob

Mandatory brakes for a certain trailer weight vary greatly depending on what State or Province you are from. Check with your D.O.T. first. <br />You don't want to caught unprepared.<br /><br />You can always add brake kits to a trailer but $$$.

The truck GWVR (?) is 4500lbs. The motor temp is normal but it's definitely pushing the 4cyl.. I change the oil a lot and just replaced the tranny fluid. I use the truck for a pop-up camper with no problem. <br />Thanks for the feed back

I think I would look for a heavier truck. That four banger is not designed for the extra weight. As mentioned eariler braking is a concern. The boat could push the truck. Ever seen a pick up with the bumber bend dow at angle betwenn 45- 90 degrees trailer did it.

Jee Whiz, guys!<br /><br />Why in the world do you think vehicles are rated for maximum towing weight?<br /><br />Just find out the rating for your truck and the weight of your towed package. This guessing is going to get somebody killed!<br /><br />BTW, if your gross towed weight is over 3000lb, Florida requires brakes, regardless of your towing vehicle.<br /><br />Good luck.
