Fished yesterday for 3 hrs without a hint of a problem. Already been out 3-4 times this season. Tried to move boat and engine cranked but would not start until maybe 15th try. Was able to get back ok. Let it idle for about 5 min. but it suddenly died. I drained the fuel tank and gas line but it still doesn't start. When cranking I can see fuel droplets in the water(lake) from the exaust port. This tells me I'm getting fuel. How can I check if I'm getting spark? Is the carb. float stuck? If so how do you un-stick it? I really don't want to take the boat out of the lake but I can't get anyone to do house calls. Any thoughts? Thanks

The last 9.9 B rolled off the assembly line in 1991. You need to take the engine into a dealer and have them troubleshoot the engine.

clean the carb, pull the plugs and install new ones...

I just had the same problem, ran like hell all the sudden one day, next time out it flooded so easy I couldn't even get it to fire.

Re: Nissan 9.9B, 2003 won't start

Forgot to mention it's an NSF 9.9B. I do suspect dirt in the carb. since I was able to get it started (w/no choke). Ran fine until I stopped it and it won't re-start when hot. Can the carb be cleaned if I drain the bowl and shoot Gumout in there? Or do I need to get the engine to a dealer? Can the carb be cleaned by a dealer at the dock? Thanks

The correct way to clean it involves removal, disassembly, cleaning by soaking it in carb cleaner, rinsing it out, blowing it out, re-assembly and installation.

I was afraid that this would be "the correct way". Ever any success with the Gumout approach or am I just kidding myself? Can the carb be removed with out taking the boat out of the water? It's a pontoon, I have to borrow a truck, arrange with the lake office, get the truck chassis steam cleaned etc...etc...etc...I know you really feel sorry for me now, but I really want to fish over Memorial day. What's my odds?

being that taking the pontoon out of the water would be such a headache and it is only a 9.9 horse, it would be easier to dismount the motor and take the motor in

Popping the carb off is a no-brainer and the only real way to clean it. That doesn't mean that you can't spray whatever version of "Mechanic-In-A-Can" into it and get lucky.....25%.

Well.... it's worth a try, gone for a couple of days. Gonna try it when I get back. Thanks for your response.
