Hello. New to the forum and researching an outboard I have. I have a nissan ns9.9b serial 97878 which Tohatsu says is an ‘87. Is it possible to just do the cam swap on this unit to upgrade to 15hp. Does anything else have to be done?

Do you know where the best place to order that cam. I tried searching by part number but the few spots I found said it was for a mid 2000’s Nissan

Year is irrelevant when servicing Tohatsu/Nissan OBs. Model/serial is everything. Proper propping has nothing to do with HP. You might be able to increate pitch a hair, but only with a tachometer would you know. PM me for help getting the part.

After the cam swap, with motor OFF full throttle the throttle grip and check if carn butterfly opens fully, if so, will need to check the time advance is correct as both 9.9 and 15 HP have different factory settings or won't perform as a 15 no matter if the cam has been swaped.

Which boat model and how many passengers onboard do you plan going boating with ? to determine if in need of a prop maximization from current factory delivered one.

It is a 16’ aluminum springbok. 3 adults with hunting decoys and equipment would be max load setup. Less of a load when fishing.

Start by ordering the mew cam and proceed to change it . Let us know when it's done. With cam swap butterfly will open more consequently delivering more fuel imput which meeds more time advance adjustment. Do you know how to check the time advance on those 9.9 motors ?

If possible post a clear pic of right motor side showing the throttle mechanism, time advance plate. Stand in middle of motor when taking the pic.
