If anyone has some advice I'd really appreciate it. I have a 2000 Nissan 9.9 4 stroke short shaft. It has super low hours since I got a larger boat shortly after buying the engine (2001). It works well as a kicker, except that I need to mount it on an Auxillary Bracket to get the right depth. Since the motor is rather heavy at 114lbs, I don't like trailering with it mounted, which means I need to lug it from car to boat each time out. I'm looking for alternatives. Is it possible to extend the lower unit to 20 in which allows me to mount it permanently? Otherwise, If I were to try and sell it, what kind of value should I expect . (I haven't been able to find many for sale for comparison). Thanks for any advice.

About $700.00 for the parts to convert it to a long shaft.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll look at option 2 - sell/trade. Any idea what ballpark I should be in for Price?

I would watch classifieds and see what used comparable Mercury 9.9's are going for since Tohatsu makes the Mercury version as well... Obviously your 9.9 is older than when Tohatsu started making the Mercury units, but it will give you a rough idea... Ebay is a crap shoot.... I am thinking about 50% off of the price of a new unit (if it is in immaculate condition and really low hours).
