Nissan 9.8 only runs in reverse

2004 Nissan 9.8 4-stroke pull-start long-shaft only runs in reverse. It happened immediately following a short run from mooring to dock when it ran fine in forward and reverse. It will now crank in gear, which I don't think it's supposed to do, and will not shift to either neutral or forward. Help!

That strange issue happened from nothing ? Don't knowthat 4 strokes model, if it has a built in shifting mechanism, probably the shift rod lever is not being retained by the shift lever stopper, check if bolt is loose and system out of adjustment.

Odds are the shift rod (19) has popped out of the shift rod lever (11)
