Nissan 9.8 NSF6A3Z/8A3/9,8A3 water problems

Motor has less that 20 hours on it but has sat for 7 months. Starts and idles perfectly but getting no water out of the telltale hole. Bottom suction screens are clear and if I blow air back down the hole it exhausts at the prop. I wouldnt think the impellar has failed already and when its running there is air coming out of the hole. Any suggestions on where to go from here to check?

Are you testing on muffs or in a container? I would pull the lower unit and check the impeller. If you have run the engine without water, you may have galled the impeller. If it is a factory impeller, it may have sat a while before you purchased it. If you take the impeller out and the fins are not flexible and fairly strait, replace it.

You are not pumping. The "air" coming out is actually exhaust. Start with a wp kit (not just the impeller). If it ran at all -- even for a few seconds -- without adequate water supply, the wp is shot.
