Good day everyone. I need to reach out for some help. My 9.8 nissan 4 stroke overheated about a week ago and ive been trying to fix it since. This happened to me before due to a bad impeller. Well its not the impeller this time but its still not peeing. Blew everything out with compressed air. There is lots of water coming out of a port located above the lower intake that i never knew existed until i removed that cowling and if i plug that hole it pees like a drunk prom date. But once i take my finger off that it stops peeing. The line is clear that is for sure. I put in another impeller just incase do dice. Am i missing a plug for that other hole to reatrict the water a bit more? I removed the tstat and same thing not peeing. Im lost. Please help!

First, it would help to have your model. NSF9.8A3?
Exactly where is that hole? You may have had a soft plug fall out due to overheating. If so, you can tap that hole and install a threaded plug.
Never change just the impeller; do a complete wp kit. Same labor, marginal extra cost, pumps better and lasts longer.

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes i pit the complete kit in with a new metal impeller housing. Here is a pic of the hole that water is coming from. Maybe there was a plug there but cant find it in parts diagrams.

Only thing i can think of is that it is part number 4 on this diagram. Labeled “exhaust plug”

Here is a pic of that exhaust plug. Any thoughts? It would have to push in because it is not tapped in the hole (will not screw in). Thoughts please?

Did the overheat occurred at idle or at high revs operation ? If the latter, will need to retorque back to specs the cylinder head, exhaust cover and lower powerhead gaskets for motor to work as was factory delivered.

Sounds like a soft plug fell out. You can tap the hole and screw a plug in.

Hey Paul so am i right in saying that there should be no water at all coming out of that hole near the driveshaft housing (see pic above)? Is so what would the part be called to plug that hole? Freeze plug? The parts diagram does not help. Thx. Kev

I have never seen that part (soft plug) available separately. The hole should be closed off. You can run a tap into the hole and install a plug and all should be well again.
