Nissan 9.8 HP XL shaft to long shaft

I am looking at a used 9.8 Nissan XL shaft, but don't need the length.
Looks like there is a 5 inch spacer to make it a XL. Is the conversion
cheap and easy to convert to a long shaft?

Easy enough, but not cheap. You will need a different driveshaft, water tube, and shift rod. Parts are available at any dealer; You may be surprised at the cost of the driveshaft.

Better to see if you can find a motor with correct length as is. The XL (25" shaft) is typically used in slow-speed sailboat applications.
