nissan 9.8 drive shaft

I'm buying a 2007 nissan 9.8 outboard that has a ul drive shaft. can I cut it to fit a 20 in. transom and would I need to change the prop?

No. Buy a different drive shaft, water tube, and delete the spacer.

Thank you sir. What will happen if the shaft is cut. A dealership is doing the work.

Will they cut a section from the middle and weld the ends together? Both ends are splined. Will they cut down the water pipe? can they press the bearing to the proper position?

i did some shortening of this motors, from L shaft to S shaft.
cut off 127 mm of mid setion, weld it back,
cut the water pipe, and gear shaft
and cut out 127mm from the shaft and wald it back in latch machine to reduce play movement.
