Nissan 6HP 4 stroke won't run over a fast idle

This unit purchased from Elvin over the Internet, Hi Elvin, last year, has only been used for about 6 hours, so not fully run in. Al of a sudden any revs over a fast idle and it chokes and sputters out with the odd back fire thro the carby. I have cleaned the fuel line system, flters and carby and jets.. Haven't changed the pug yet, which looks in good shape. Any ideas. <br /><br />Thanks

Backfires are usually the cause of a bad trigger coil, broken flywheel key or a damaged reed. This one sounds more like a reed rather than the other two. But, I would go back through that carb again. Shoot me an email at info@internetoutboards.com and I will email you a few pages out of the manual that are relevant. You can pick up a Mercury, Nissan or Tohatsu factory manual from any dealer.
