Nissan 5hp serial Number

I have a 5hp that was stolen and I am trying to find out what the serial number is. I have a coupe of numbers writen down but I need to know how many numbers would be in the serial number. It is a 1998 four stroke 5 hp

I have a 99 and it has 5 digits, all numbers.

If the serial is numbered on a low relief small round plate attached around exhaust port it's useless to help track stolen OB's, it's very easy to remove with a small screwdriver if hasn't fell already by itself due to vibration , cast numbered on powerhead it's other story which Tohatsu seems not to use at least on 2 strokes models.

Back in '98, the serial number was 5 numbers. You can go to the nissan marine website and use their contact form to check on the number you have and report it as stolen.
